THE PROCESS

Before I took on the role of managing colors at UNRL, there was no established system for color assortment, forecasting, or storytelling. SS25 marked our first official season with a defined color strategy, with intentional reasoning behind each color choice.

I would start the process by analyzing performance data to identify which colors resonated with our consumers and retailers and which didn’t. From there, I conducted in-depth research on trending colors and closely examined what our competitors are releasing—paying special attention to which colors succeed and which fall flat. I also identified gaps in UNRL’s existing color palette, seeking opportunities to introduce fresh shades or evolve current ones.

Once we narrowed down the palette to 5-15 key colors, I would work with the senior product developer to determine the seasonal assortment. From there we would decide which colors will be assigned to each category—men’s, women’s, golf, or athleisure—while also planning the lifespan of each color (whether it will be a fashion, seasonal, or core color). I would also explore the possibility of creating limited-edition color stories to add excitement and exclusivity.

After finalizing the palette, I would request lab dips for every color across all fabrics and factories involved in production. For SS25, I managed over 200 lab dips, ensuring each color maintained consistency across different materials. Additionally, I oversaw strike-offs for any printed items, including men’s and women’s polos and printed hoodies.

Please Note: For FW25 & SS26, I am unable to showcase my work as the colors have not yet launched.
